Looking to replace a 135 Mercury optimax on a 21 FT hurricane deckboat. Would like dependable, quiet engine. Pros / Cons of each brand / experiences? I appreciate any guidance on this matter since I have never bought and engine. The Boat is a 1999. Should I just look at new ones?

Thanks

Yamaha doesn't offer a 4-stroke 175 so your only choice in that size is the E-Tec.

Nobody seems to be making a bad motor these days. Pick what you most easily can get parts and service for locally.

Did you not like the Optimax? To me the seem to offer a good power to weight ratio and the prices are pretty competitive. I think they are even offering a 5 year warranty at no extra charge.

Just a thought.

etec has way better performance than any four stroke. thats like apples and oranges

if it were a choice of 4 strokes id lean toward a new suzuki thats what sea tow and coast guard use
