i have 180 bumble bee bass boat with 175 johnson with a jackplate prop is a rengade131/2x25 4 blade runs great with one person still cant get the rpms up runs at 5500 around 60 to 64 mph with fishing buddy and his gear gets 55 mph at 5000-5200 holeshot is terrible,so questionis it fesible to have more cup put in the prop i have now or will it be betterto drop down a size?also a seen a prop on a yammy last night and it looked like the edges were cut off it was a ballistic i think whats the purpose in that?

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

I cant remember -- is your jackplate manual?

As for the Ballistic (or Bull-istic) props, the only thing I can see for the design was that when Attwood started making them they wanted something that looked radical and was cheap. They sold a ton of props quick and then sold the division to Michigan wheel. They seem to work OK once you have a specialist re-work them but at that point you could have, money-wise, bought a good prop in the first place.

Very good. Have you tried small adjustments up? I know it may not help much with that small diameter but we should try.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

So we've slowed down with the exact same prop and jackplate height, right?

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

OK, I reread everything so at first we were at 5500 and 60-64 mph and now were at 5400 and 61-63mph. OK, thats not bad.

Did you put in new plugs after the decarb?

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Raising the motor is free and easy. And changing it back is too if youre not happy. Just watch the water pressure. That hull design should respond well.

I'd try some new plugs too. The decarb process can be tough on them.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Any time you lose drag (less gearcase in the water) and the prop still hooks up, you gain across the board. Holeshot, cruise speed, top speed, top rpm, fuel milage -- everything. Just watch the water pressure.

The ideal X dimension is where the prop vents ever so slightly as you take off hard but bites (hooks up) again on its own. Generally speaking -- if you can use all of the trim range you can go higher with that prop.
