I am looking at the 2007, 175HP Evinrude E-Tech,to be put on a 26 foot Tri-Toon. This pontoon is to be used on the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.
The E-Tech sounds good with "No Scheduled Dealer maintenance for 3 Years".. Has anyone had the E-Tech longer than the 3 years?? If so what happens in the 4th year??

Thanks
Dean

In the 4th year you "Buy another E-Tech"...Just kidding. The maintenance schedule is something of a gimmick. You still have to do maintenance, it just doesn't have to be done by the dealer. So far the E-Tech has been very successful with very few teething pains. Pull the trigger and buy one. It's as good, if not better, than most anything else you could choose.

Thanks for the reply Elvin.. We take ownership sometime after January 2007, (Personal Property Tax, " thing" ). Plus here in Missouri we drain the water out of the Lake of the Ozarks so we can paint the bottom each winter.

Hey Dean. "Plus here in Missouri we drain the water out of the Lake of the Ozarks so we can paint the bottom each winter. "

That's really not very funny beins we are finally recovering from a drought here. It taint a pretty picture to see your fishing hole muddy brown. :|

Just kiddin. I know your water there is beautiful and have thought many times about relocating up there.....but probably will never happen.

When I was a kid a next door neighbor from Pasadena, TX. moved to Flippin, Ark. Assumed it had something to do with fishing. Didn't keep in touch so don't know.

I was reading the other day where the Merc Optimax has had the bugs worked out also if your e-tech deal falls through.

You should be able to get an extra 3 years on the warranty, make sure you ask and check on it. Go to the Evinrude site, should give details. I know Suzuki has already started thier promotions.

Chunder:

Thanks for the site, E-TECH it will be !!! The Marina that we are going to buy from works on almost anything, but sells Evinrude. I trust the Marina very much, but it's good to hear other people say good things about the E-TECH, OR MAYBE the E-TECH'S just speak for themselves!!!

Mark:

Sorry to hear about the drouth!! Thanks for the reply!!

Re: 175HP Evinrude E-Tech

I just took delivery of my 175 E-tec last saturday. they came out with a promotion of 4 dollar per HP rebate or extended warrenty or a 42" plasma TV.
so far mine is working as advertised.
its on an 18 hydra-sports fish and ski and will run 60 even on the GPS at 5400 RPM.
its not quite as smooth at idle as a v6 4 stroke but so far not the first puff of smoke anytime.
mine is set up to burn the xd-100 oil.
not much sense in attempting to extract more speed on my hull though, at 60 its chine walking fairly hard.

Hey rodbolt.

The first Hydrasport I saw was about 2' in the air where the driver had just jumped an oncoming boat wake. Was running the Merc 150 Blue band I6. Was impressive.

Rodbolt:

Thanks for the reply. The xd-100 oil set-up sounds like the way to go..
60mph sounds great for you, I just want to be able to get away from some of these 40 foot CRUISERS that thinks they are GO-FAST-BOATS !!!!
This promotion I don't know about.. The REBATE ( I will use less gas next summer than I did this summer) ,
The EXTENDED WARRENTY (it's an E-TECH, who needs it)
The 42" Plasma TV ( you have a E-TECH, why would you want to be in the House )

Thanks
Dean

If rodbolt likes it, that's good enough for me. He has as much experience wrenching on all types of marine engines as anyone I know of. Not to mention, he's dang good at it.

Re: 175HP Evinrude E-Tech

trust me, they were proud of the 175.
however the rebate is good for 700 dollars cash back.
rigged and delivered with a 4 blade 23" renagade and installing a K6 cyl and sport hydrualic helm set me back about 15K.
yamaha did not offer the motor I wanted ,that and then I would delude myself into thinking I may acually maintain it, so I bought the E-tec from a long time dealer friend that I used to work for. aint no way I would own an opti pop.
so it left me with the E-tec.
so far I have maybe 4 hours on it, the wind was up sunday.
this hull rides very hard.
last time I ran from wanchese NC back to kitty hawk in a 30 MPH sw wind I peed blood for 2 days and that was with a 115 on the back.
I stuck the bow under twice that day.
and its only about a 15 mile run.
this E-tec is an absolute torque monster though.
the only issue I have is a slight stumble, occasionally, at about 1800 RPM when throttling up.
that and at RPM's below 3000 the throttle is incredibly touchy. its very difficult to alter them by 300 or so.
but I told my buddy as a master yamaha tech I was gonna bust his E-tec, he says I got 3 years to try :).
I am gonna look funny at the next yamaha seminar with my yamaha master tech shirt and my E-tec hat :).

DWJ
I dont like you at all after yor personall attack on me and whether I should be in the US or not.
I am very bitter about that. you stepped way way out of bounds,
I will compare my military against yours any day.
however, go with the biggest E-tec they offer.
I have a few crabbers with the 50 E-tec that love them.
in the past 18 months other than some spark plug issues they adore them.
the F50 EFI yammi's are kick butt as well.
but if ya want that 2 stroke kick and NO smoke the E-tec seems to deliver.
I paid cash for mine, but either way go with the biggest motor your hull is rated for and you wont be dissapointed.
its only a few months more payments.
for those that have to finance.

Re: 175HP Evinrude E-Tech

Rodbolt, check w/your E-Tec buddy to see if the 175's have the same throttle cam problems at the 115's had. I followed a thread over on the Whaler board for a while on the 90 and 115, I think they did some minor modification.

rodbolt,

Leave it in DC. Bringing it here, out of context of the DC thread, is fair to noone, especially to the person that asked the original question here.

I have, in the past, informed others that your expertise as a highly knowledgeable marine technician is paramount. I will continue to recommend you. Whether we diasgree or agree about a political issue, doesn't belong here.

The members of this board deserve your expert input unincumbered by personal distaste of me.

I have removed my e-tec comments. My comments are based on heresay and desire, thus not really valid.

I do, very much, appreciate and respect your advice and local e-tec experience.

Re: 175HP Evinrude E-Tech

Rodbolt, take a look here at pictures of the throttle cam comments from those whith repairs done.

I had the update done, and it solved a problem with momentary hessitation on hard accelleration from a dead stop. It did not get a new throttle positioning cam, just the software update per the BRP notice. I did get a free gallon of XD-100 oil for my trouble.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My 150 has both the new cam and the software update.... nice and smooth
