I was recently told that when the Faststrike motors first came out that they were actually 175hp de-tuned or worked to run and sold as 150hp for a while then re-called and made to be real 150hp is it possible to have an early one that is actually a 175hp with 150 rating just curious???

Close. The first 60 degree V6 OMC motors "pushed" the envelope of NMMA's 10% rule. Merc and Yamaha wrote letters of protest and in 1992 the OMC's were a bit tamer -- a bit more conservative with the port timing.

The 91's were never recalled, and never converted to anything. The 150 and 175 60* motors (called 6V6 or Eagle series) have the same bore & stroke as well as gear ratio. They have basically the same intake system. The heads are slightly different although one 150 model came stock with 175 heads.

On the same boat turning the same rpm you'd be hard pressed to see a difference. Youd have to have a hull that responds very well to small changes in torque.

hahahaah
yep, but they did the same all the time. the early suzuki 150ss motors pushed the 10% rule as well. Dhadley remembers more of the details but on some bass boat hulls they made quite a difference.

hmm thats weird. i wonder what the differences are between my mervcury 150 xr6 and the 200 classic. they both have the same bore and stroke and gear ratios...maybe timing or opening the ports more in the 200?

05Glastron The 200 classic will romp the XR6. The XR6 will run out of wind in around 5500 rpm whereas the 200 Classic will keep breathing past 6000 because of more aggresive porting etc.
