Hi all. We have decided to start a thread on our last minute speed boat project. 5 of us decided 1.5 weeks ago that it would be fun to buy a speed boat for our Newquay trip on the 6th of august (just over a week away now). To cut a long story short, after looking at many, we won this on eBay, a 17ft super Sims V, which had been converted to a diesel (not what we wanted, although it didnt matter as by now we had plans for new engine).
We got back to the unit and started stripping it right away, and as we have gone along its now turned into a full restoration. Its basically now a fibreglass hull. It has a Pre-alpha stern drive onj it which were keeping. Obviously its an inboard engine.
We are half way threw now, with one week to go, so will be updating most nights. Its current stage is... just about ready for everything to start going back in and started rubbing down for the respray.
Ill let the photos do the rest of talking, any questions or feedback would be great.
The engine we are putting in, is a freshly built Ford RS turbo engine running cosworth management. About 200 - 250BHP.
*The tasks done and todo are as follows:
*New engine build, with pistons, rods, head, block, turbo, cosworth management ETc
*Custom water cooling system
*New custom engine mounts
*New custom stainless fuel tank, swirl pot and fuel pump mounts.
*Completely rewired everything in the boat
*New custom made carbon fibre dash
*Custom clock set and dials
*New recovering of all panels, sides, top, engine cover, top panels ETC
*Complete top half respray in metallic red
*Full inside paint and new floor
*Sterndrive re-paint and new internal water pump
Lots more that i cant remember!
The first pictures are a few from the ebay advert and some outside the unit where were re-building it (NMS, Norris Motor sport : Ford engine specialists)
***How it "was" with the good'ol diesel engine in her
*** Started stripping it out to see what it was like (absolulty soddern)
