17hp Evinrude Info Please

A guy at work has a "17hp Evinrude". I was thinking it would be a nice swap for my 14' Starcraft. (up from a 9.9 Johnson)

What years did they make them?
Is it a factory tweaked 9.9 or a detuned 20?

never heard of a 17hp outboard of any make. get the model # off the motor. know what you are dealing with

That's because there isn't any!

They didn't even make one back in the 30s when the motors were rated whatever they happened to be off the line. Got some oddball ones back then (16.2 and 17.6 is the closest they came to a 17 and that was 1934 and 1941 respectively).
