This is my 1988 Nordic Crestliner Phanton 185 the Day I brought her home.... and Now.... Getting ready to paint the sides. The Bottom and Gunnel's are in good shape. I bought self etching primer OMNI MP176. and MP177 catalyst. Then I am planning on Painting with Rustoleum Marine Paint. I was wondering if I should Spray or roll and tip. I do have a compressor and spray gun, but am not very proficient with it (Painted a few cars and tend to get a few runs). I thought I might have more control with the roll and tip method. I have heard there is a additive I can add to the paint to help eliminate the brush strokes. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a compressor and using the Omni (I have sprayed allot of it) I would spray the primer.

To properly spray the rustoleum it needs to be thinned out and it does not lay down as nice as the omni.

How do you intend on doing the bottom???? Are you going to hang the boat?

Not doing the bottom.... It cleaned up real nice....shines even before i wax it and has no imperfections, scratches in the paint. any suggestions on with paint other than the rustoleum? The color i need is oyster white.

Actually Omni is not bad at all and if you want real deep shine...... shoot some clear over it. You can actually shoot the Omni production clear over the rustoleum and it will adhere and lay down nicely too.

The omni will be harder then the rustoleum but more $$

Omni is not the "best" paint but it is more than adequate for boats and cars. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=245640&highlight=2500 not really highlighted but the bumper is rustoleum with clear and the rest is omni finish (see post #39)

Did you sand by hand or use a DA or random orbit? I'm getting ready to start sanding mine.
