Re: 18' Holiday OB ~ the Backburner project

Got to spend some time on the beast tonight. It put up a little fight, but the steering has been removed from the tilt tube:

The boat had to give up some more glass to accomplish the task:

Little by little.

I'll finish getting donor 2 cut up in the next day or 2, then get a little help lifting the beast off the transom. I'll need to bleed the T&T system, it's stuck tilted up as well.

Have a great week...................

Thanks for swinging by Decker, appreciate it.

So, I'm having trouble getting the remote cables unhooked from the motor, so I'm going to ME.com & find a Merc remote parts diagram & see if I can get a better idea of how to pull them off. It wasn't even evident to me if they were cotter pinned or thru bolted in some why.

All the trim pump hoses & wiring are free from the hull, just not ready to unscrew a line & possibly drain hydraulic fluid into the hull, just yet. I've also cut back more of the splashwell so I can access the lower engine thru bolts. OB still doesn't have much give w/ that big Merc hanging off it, too bad it was such a wreck. Could have been a nice 17ft bow rider.

Engine cherry picker is broken down at my office, so tomorrow's task after work is it's transport & set up on-site, then get the motor control cables all disconnected. IF it all goes well, perhaps lift the 1350 off the transom.

My backordered rivet gun arrived:

I may just need to bring a better over head light & a flashlight, unless I get the motor tilted back down, it's just an awkward angle from inside the boat or standing beside it.

W/ the motor upright, it'll be much easier to be standing besides the motor looking down.

Didn't find any info for the trim pump either. I'll look today & see if it doesn't have a bleeder on the base somewhere. There isn't much of a reservoir, it seems to be the base of the pump assembly.....

This may prove helpful:

For 4 hose T&T systems ^^^

And the 1350 has 4 hoses.

7/16" nuts & bolts were holding the remote control ends. And yep, had to crack the fluid lines open to get the trim rams to drop. But drop it did. And it's free of the transom
If only temporarily.... Some jack leg forgot to build the OB stand...... Doh...

I also grabbed a nice piece of aluminum angle off the transom lip of the 1350's donor boat.

So, now 1350 Merc info is here, where it belongs.

Wow, nearly 16months between posts......

I'm not the madman SC boat builder of the north. I have NO idea how Jas does it, WITH 3 kids. Oh wait, he isn't nearly 50. Sleep is optional.... 1 step close to the BIG FIVE O in a few weeks.

So the Merc's remote controls are thru bolted. Once I got some crud & grime outta the way & the motor tilted back down, it was much easier to get the controls unbolted:

Upright Merc:

It's still GI-NOR-MUS tilted down, but now I could stand next to it & get a much better handle on the unbolting:

7/16" nuts ^^^

There is some wiring damage, and I forgot to snap a pix of the plugs I pulled, but they look good. NipponDenso, though....

Final farewell:

Good bye:

And regretfully, the TeeNee trailer has been scraped:
IMAG1544_zps184c9472.jpg

It was a wreck and I needed the room: The center spar was completely thrashed & rusted out, TeeNee winch 'post' was shot, as was the winch, the pinch rollers all had flats spots where they quit rolling LONG before someone stopped using the trailer, the shocks are shot, the fenders have rusted thru & fallen off (NOT original teardrop fenders) and a significant portion of the axle carrier assembly isn't sound. I might have gotten something for it, or it's parts/pieces but needed it gone. I considered dismantling every thing I could & try to find someone interested, but I already have parts & pieces I haven't listed and listed parts that haven't sold.

Deed is done. If I hadn't done it today, I'm not sure when I'd have been able to. And it was definitely in the way of bringing the Duracraft to the boat shed.

Ok, now its back into hibernation for the Holiday thread.........
