Re: 18 hp Evinrude mdl 18802M

Hi Charles; I picked up a 63' 18 hp Johnson this past Spring that needed rebuilt. After reading alot of repair manuals and help from extremely knowledgable ( Paul Moir) outboard guru's on this website , I now have an excellent running and reliable motor. My Father had a 67' model that he bought new and i believe the only thing he did to the motor was change points, plugs and a propeller. That motor was used alot in the back woods of Canada where rocks, floating logs and submerged stumps are abundant but that motor always got us back to camp. He sold the boat and motor about 8 years ago and i wish i would have taken it now.:'( .I would'nt hesitate on buying another motor either Johnson or Evinrude from the 60's. especially the 18 and 20 hp. models. mine was quite easy to work on. everything was easy to access. Im sure if you had any problems or concerns you can come to this place and get your answers.Getting back to your ?,, i have never heard anything that was really bad with these motors but i get on this site about everyday and will keep looking at this post to see what other people may have to say as well.
