18 hp merc year?

Hello out there!
I am new member. Happily bought a black 18 hp merc with tiller throttle shifting today. It has a black plastic choke nob that is just left of the fuel connection and no other controlls. The tiller handle folds back all the way back. I have been looking for an hour online and here also for a cross ref. for my serial # 9382199. to determine the year. It was bought used in 1993 for $700. I would guess 1988 or earlier. Does anyone know the year? I need to search out a shop manual for it.

The best I can do is tell you that it was made in Belgium, hopefully someone (with better reference material than me) will come along shortly and help you.
