Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

How about 32 mph (from the guage, not gps) at 3200 rpm? I just can't get the motor's rpm up. With the family ( 2 grandchildren- four adults) only about 28 mph. I have several props to try but honestly have not had it on the water in a while. Dog gone it looks good though.:D
I will give yall pics soon. God Bless all of you, and at the risk of sounding wimpy,... miss yall too. Dale

Glad to hear the boat is floating looking forward to catching up and seeing those pics. I was thinking about Your thread the other day while I was popping a few rivets in My gunwales (less than 100 total so far). :)

Sometime times life throws you a curve. You can duck, dodge or get hit. Through these few friends, I have learned to do them all. And I still survived.

Thank You to I Boats and the friendship I have on this forum, With all due respect, Dale

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Life walloped me pretty hard last year. I came to full term with my son being autistic. I accepted the fact he has a pretty bad learning disability and it's NOt going away. Having this forum helps a bit. You make a few friends and get to tinker with your boat. I think a few of us have had some rough times and it's nice to come here and do what we do.

Hope you fix that motor up. That 115 should move a bit faster than that. What pitch prop do you have? What is the operating ranfg for that outboard? 3200 sounds low on the rpms. I hate to sic the mob on you but you promised some pictures. You know the Offshore is the prettiest boat Starcraft made. You need to show it off!

The teak dash looks really nice, but, to be honest i liked the original better, that bit of wood you used had a lot of "soul" to it.

You should be running at least 4500 rpm. Possibly the carbs need gone through or you are way overpitched on the prop.

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Fshngho, I have been reading through your thread. You have done some real nice work on your boat. I have a few questions, if you don't mind. You used JB weld to fill in low spots in the aluminum, did you use marine JB or just the regular JB weld. Just to verify, you also used a light coat of Moellers, then two coats of Interlux Pre-Kote. Did you only use Interlux Brightside for the complete outer hull, or did you do something different for below the waterline. I have read that Brightside was for above the waterline. There was some mention of Interlux VC for the very bottom of the hull, and I was wondering if I should use this. Since I live on a lake my boat will see a fair amount of time in the water, unless I find some way to raise the money for a lift. Looking forward to hearing your opinion. Once again real nice work on your boat.

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

A 'heads up' for those men who may be regular Lowe's, Home Depot, or Costco customers. This one caught me by surprise.

Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends.

Here's how the scam works:

Two seriously good-looking 20-something girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It is impossible not to look. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' and instead ask you for a ride to McDonalds.

You agree and they get into the back seat. On the way, they start undressing. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet.

I had my wallet stolen September 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 24th, & 29th. Also October 1st & 4th, twice on the 8th, 16th, 20th, 21st, 23rd, 24th, and 30th three times last Monday and very likely again this upcoming weekend.

So tell your friends to be careful. What a horrible way to take advantage of older men. Warn your friends to be vigilant.

Oh, WalMart has wallets on sale for $2.99 each. I found cheaper ones for $1.99 at Target and bought them out. Also, you never will get to eat at McDonalds. I've already lost 11 pounds just running back and forth to Lowe's, Home Depot, and Costco. Edit Post Reply Reply With Quote

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

If two seriously good looking women approached me I'd know it was a scam!

Glad you're well Dale, hope the Offshore is doing OK. Enough with the small talk now. Pay you're dues bro.:D God bless and hang in there.

Re: SS for Fshngho

I know I don't want to do away with bow rails completely. Maybe some like djpeters boat or EZ's would allow for a trolling motor. I have a long row to hoe before I need to worry about that though:redface: I read that the first two digits of hull id numbers may be the year. Mine is 68, does that sound right to anyone? Dale

I seen a boat with a flex tube on one he took is on an off i just got a 16' star ss first time need help on some floore plans any ideas TK YOU

Sorry if I'm breaking forum rules about reviving old threads, but we don't want this to be "an old thread".

If your still out there, we would love to hear from ya and see that boat ready for summer!
