185 Johnson

I am going to buy a 20 foot Robalo with a 185 Johnson. The previous owner suspects that the lower unit is bad. My question is does this engine use the same lower unit as the 200 johnson and is it worth repairing or just repowering.

not much to go on. 185 what year, model number, compression, spark, condition of power head. why does seller thinlk the lower is bad?
