I have a 18hp evinrude fastwin with low hours that I just replaced the water pump assembly on, and cleaned carb etc. There is no water coming out when running. I took the foot off and tried to blow water up the tube and it does not exit anywhere...... any ideas?????

Depending on year, did you check the thermostat?

The engine is a 1957 which did not have a thermostat. When you ran the engine, did you have the engine deep enough to cover the water pump? When you tried to force water up the inlet tube, could you get a good enough seal? The inlet tube fits into a rubber grommet half way up the exhaust housing, is it ok?

Yes and thank you for the info I was not sure of the year. wow a 1957! This has sat inside a shed for the last 25 years.... that I know of. I got a great seal and when I released it it shot the water back out at me I don't want to hurt this should I take the head off? The grommet half way up is fine, and I took it to the boat ramp thinking what you are about the water input to the pump.... Thanks again.

Take the head off, and check the water passages. If you should have to, it is quite a simple matter to lift the power head off to check for an obstruction. I'm thinking about what you said having the water forced back at you when you released the hose. You only need a single gasket to put the power head back.

By the way should the water exit from the exhaust on the back center about a foot down?
