19?? Starcraft Jetstar

I just bought a 19 something Starcraft Jetstar 15'. It's titled as a 1985 but I know it's much older. Previous owner must have went through the lost title thing, as it has NY replacement HIN tags but the registration matches the tags, so it's legal at least. I cannot locate the Starcraft serial number.

Went through a blizzard to get it. plenty of looks towing a boat in the middle of March.
Guy said it ran and he fished it last year, and I suspect it will but I'm not 100% worried about that as I have another motor that I know does run. I didn't check compression. It's a big twin 40hp Super Seahorse. Transom isn't bad, it was replaced at some point but it is coming due again. I'll run it for the few times I'll venture out this year

yup. I was going to use my local carwash but I'd have to back it in a tight area and in town is kind of a tourist nuthouse right now, so I'll get my pressure washer out when it warms up later in the week

I just went out and found the original serial tag. It is actually a Holiday 14.. I also found it's sister boat online and by the color scheme I'll call it a 1975. It's not original paint, but the color scheme is basically original..

The seating is a mess. This is a fishing modification by a previous owner. The seat benches are bolted to a wooden cleat that is attached through the hull via some decent stainless hardware, and then the supported by the main ridge beam in the center... This of course is all going away and I'm ordering some nice Wise B2B seats from the Iboats shop

I'm contemplating installing this junkers windshield. It's one of the last things worth anything on this boat before it has a date with a chainsaw. I know the windshield is too wide, BUT I could have the center window cut down at my favorite glass shop. I would need to make adapter parts for it, but the plexi windshield is split in 2, caulk repair is holding though

I think I've determined the motor to be around a 1964? It is not electric shift and has Shipmaster controls, but is a Super Sea Horse 40 Electric. I know, it's a big twin 40hp and all of those are pretty much identical mechanically. Supposed to be about 50* on Weds, I may put it in a barrel and see if it will fire up.

I forgot to mention, the Minn Kota is about 1yr old, but I might hang a 4hp OMC in it's place since I have 2 of them in operating condition

That would look pretty cool with the slope on the windshield. I bet that little flat bottom 14 would scoot with a 60 horse pushing.

I'm sure it would move with a 60hp.. It's Rated for 40hp so it will be plenty fast

Dont forget, the Jets bow deck isnt flat, complicated windshield likely requires complicated install, beyond trimming the center.

It might fit and leave you a trapazoid shaped center section that may not operate right.

I considered that. If I go forward with it, my plan was to create an adapter with the curve on one side, and flat on top..

However I did the measuring. The little boat's windshield is 58.5" at the supports and the big windshield is 26" per side wide. That would need the center window sectioned to 6.5" just to fit. The side glass combined with the curvature measures the whole windshield at 79" long.. Putting 79" on the tape measure and lining it up, does not compute it as usable. My option to use it, is to only use the front glass and omit the side glass. I do not know how it comes apart, if I chose to do it

The cheapest option is to remove the cheapo caulk that the previous owner put in the crack, and replace with lexol which dries crystal clear. It will hide it a little more while costing under $10

While putting a new winch on the trailer as the old one was broken, I noticed the tongue is slightly bent. Someone for sure jack knifed it in it's past life.
Is that a real huge deal? It towed 55 MPH without a sway. I put a 1500# strap winch on it, as it's what Walmart had in stock. It's actually too big but works.
There is an old Sears boat o a nice Shorelandr trailer that I can get for $375 and it has a parts 40hp big twin on it ( blown lower unit, said running ) but I really don't want to deal with another junk boat

The trailer I have is an old Holesclaw. I know they were good trailers

I've determined that this Holiday 14 is likely a '66 as the OB is a '66. The wooden dash is there, and it's been neatly covered with vinyl. I think the later boats got steel dashes.


Contenplating Gluvit substitutes since I discovered that the previous owners put the deck on with 2 screws. Gluvit is on not on the shelves at local West Marine and I'd like to do it tomorrow. Is there a product that would work decent from a home store? This is a preventative

Any idea's on bilge pump mounting? A previous owner actually correctly installed a thru hull, and added a 450 GPH Seachoice pump that to me looks like a toy. It mounts to a bracket, that screws to the deck just above the bilge and with it the way it is, the pump sits just above the bottom like it should. Pretty sure the pump was designed for an old runabout, but I want a bigger pump

I bought a Rule 800 GPH square pump, while I was browsing the marine store waiting for the lady to process paperwork on my brand new trailer.. I did not notice at the time that it was meant to screw down from the bottom. My old runabout does not have a bilge pump plate. I'm thinking aluminum channel bolted together into a spacer bracket from the deck.. As well as drilling another hole on the other side of the boat and putting another thru hull, because I have 2 pumps.. Is making a bracket the correct thing to do?

What are my options for mounting a kicker motor, that can be remote steered? I know the Atwood bracket is $20 and if the kicker was hanging on the transom, I could make it work, but the kicker bracket complicates it a bit.. Wondering if a kicker can sit that close to the motor if the bracket was not there, or on the other side.. The trolling motor is an Endura C2 30# but with only one battery on the boat and being so small, extra gasoline stores lighter than extra batteries

No clue on a remote mounted kicker but thats a cool old boat. Should be a lot of fun on the water for you!

I keep opening cans of worms on this boat. First was the deck. I knew it wasn't right ( screwed down, ends wrapped over with carpet on raw plywood ) but was good enough, except I noticed that it had some rot at the back under the splash well, so it wasn't. Ripped it out, made templates and fitted a new deck made out of 5 ply ABX which I had here anyway for a different boat, wrapped with new carpet. Put it in the same way it came out, because season is near and good enough will do.

Now I'm looking at the bilge pump wiring and notice they ran it through the stereo power feed and it's supplied by a 16ga speaker wire ( 7 conductor monster cable ) It works for the stereo, because who cares. But now I gotta rewire all this mess since I'm not relying on speaker wire for a safety device. I'm going to run new power to a new panel to power VHF and bilge pump

Oh man, that stinks.

I can relate... back in 1992 I bought a 1966 Mustang where some previous owner had wired the power to the radio to the "High" position of the heater fan motor! So, the only way to turn it on was to put that fan on high. Ugh! That was a real mess to straighten out, but I did.

The thing that really sucks is I really don't even want a stereo in it, but if I remove it, there is a single din hole in the dash that I gotta do something with. The VHF would be better there, but I think it's smaller length ways than single din.. And that's for another time. Have to build a new dash and refit the whole thing at that point.

Anyone know what happened to Airguide compass company? I know Johnson Outdoors owns the rights, but looks like they have been out of production for a while. I just bought one NOS for the boat and it just came in. Was going to go Ritchie, but I've only ever followed an Airguide on a boat

Curved windshield indicates 60’s to me. I bet you’re right. (1966) Does it look like it’s had other motors mounted on it? Dealer stickers on both motor and boat?
