Re: 1909 Evinrude 1 of 25

After 2 days of cleaning it up, it runs awesome now..just had a lot of dust and a white layer on the aluminum...cleaned up in 6 hours..Cool motor but load due to needing an exhaust baffle. The original spark plug works also..No play of any sorts in driveshaft and it pumps water. Seals that are in good shape from that long ago is extremely unusual. If I had to find any gaskets, now that would be a trick. I'll just fabricate them beings though that was the way they were made anyhow.

I had an expert on the phone listen to it to see if there was any hesitation to see if there is a need for a new magneto. He was stunned. Of coarse it could use some true expert TLC but bolts were incredibly easy to take out throughout the whole thing. Every gasket and seal is there and seperated without a tear. Cool as can be. Now to the Johnson. That could use a new tank because it is dented but I have a feeling it will get up and go.

I'm thinking that's a 1924 Johnson model A by the serial number. I'll try to find a pic.
Johnson Model A, 1922-24, 2hp @ 2250 RPM, 2 cylinder 2" bore by 1.5" stroke, 35lbs and a price tag of $140.
Handy link

EDIT: Ok, found one:
1923 Model A

Yes tell us! Tell us! You can't just leave this thread undone. I got to see most of the motors pictured here all restored and up close and personal at our annual Memorial Day boat races. What a thrill.

Dumb question, but is that a 2 cycle engine? If so what did you mix the gas/oil ratio?
Definately post us some pictures when you are done.
