Wondering what the "HS" means in my model number. Johnson also made HA-39 and HD-39, what's the difference?

Howdy HA.

I don't know right offhand. The HA and HD are both heavier, and the HD has a slightly larger fuel capacity.

I have an old Johnson Shop Manual that covers all three. I will go through and see what I can find.

I suspect that of the three there is a standard model, a "weedless" model and an auxilary model for sailboats, etc.

Howdy, HA.

Your HS-39 is the "Standard" model. It weighs 21.5lb, uses a rope start on an open flywheel and has a fuel capacity of 3.5 pints.

The HA-39 has "Automatic Rewind" starting and weighs 26lb.

The HD-39 "Deluxe" has recoil starting, a full bonnet that includes a 3.75 pint tank, and weighs 28lb.

In all other features, etc. they seem identical.

Happy boating! :)
