This motor and a little gale buccaneer (question about that one posted in "other outboards") have carbs that I have no experience with.

I was wondering if anyone had a diagram of the carb. (yes you mr. Ott, man with a seemingly endless catalogue of parts manuals)

The ignition is foreign as well.

It is in need of a recoil spring, of which I haven't been able to find.

It has good compression, so I figuired why not fool with it. Missing side cowlings of course.

I am refraining form purchasing manuals, as most might suggest. These were in a stash of parts and motors I picked up. I'm not opposed to manuals, but have a hard time putting money into something, when in the evaluation period. If I get it to a point where it's a keeper vs a parts motor, sure then I'll buy one.

I can't stop myself from trying to give life to motors most people wouldn't fool with, at least here I know I'm in good company.

Working up to the 1929 Johnson Model 300, 7hp. It's a wreck but so damn good looking.

Rambling: 2 questions: info on carb, and where to get recoil spring (part no.)

Thanks all, enjoy

I only have the manual for the earlier 3.3. '41-'46 and it's not very good. Just basically a cut away of the engine.

Thanks Steve, I'll just try to wing it if nobody can come up with anything.

Do you know if these recoil springs are available.

Does uncoiling it and winding it in the other direction, then flipping it if that makes any sense.

On second thought, at your convienience a cut-away would be helpful. The one on oldomc.com (?) for the 7.5 that I believe you posted got me through that one. It was new territory at the time.

I've showered and still smell like gasoline, awesome.

Thanks again, you are a big help on this forum.

No idea about the spring. But quite often you can fix em. I have in some cases. If the loop is bust off the inside I have successfully mig welded it back on. Also you can heat and bend a new loop also on some models. Post a pic. And PM me your email address for the cut away.

It's not broken, it's just lost it's springiness (is that a word) I was considering rolling it out flat and heating it. I'm glad to know that wasn't a completely dumb idea. PM enroute.

276510 recoil spring is obsolete/no longer available from mfr. You will have to hunt for that one. I have a used one, but am hoarding it for myself. Try www.sea-way.com Yes, as a last ditch effort you may try bending it backwards a bit. DON'T heat it, that will destroy it for sure.

Send me a PM with your e-mail address if you want a carb diagram. Evinrude's crowning glory in making something overly complicated.

I am in need of an armature plate clip. Nothing on ebay, if anyone might have one I am willing to pay a reasonable/unreasonable price for it.

Thank you F_R for those parts manual pictures. A big help. Were they sub-contracting out work to Mercury at that time. (joke) what an overly complicated carb.

Digging into the Lower Unit, so far so good.

You might also try Engine Blade and Prop. They seem to have a decent NOS supply for this vintage of motors.
