1947 5HP Sea King. Nice running classic :)

Roughly a year ago, I took a nice long drive and went and purchased a 1955 Johnson CD-12 from a guy and he threw in a 1947 Sea King 5hp in the deal. I just got this old bugger running tonight and it's appears to be a good responsive and mechanically sound machine. I pulled the flywheel off and cleaned the points on it and the entire ignition system was about as close to brand new, that I ever seen. So far, all I found wrong with this motor, is the tank needs some cleaning out and it needs a new tank filter. It sure came back to life with a vengence though. LOL

The model is 74GG9012, so I'm pretty sure the year is 1947. With a new paint job, this motor will be nice little classic.

Yep, that's a 47...nice find. Does it have the side cowls? I'm partial to the 51-54 models.

No, unfortunately it doesn't. It sure is a nice running motor though. This doggon thing runs like new still. LOL

Maybe I'll explore the option of making some shrouds. It would be cool to istall a fuel pump on it and set it up for remote tank, then make a custome clamshell for it.

Good luck with the fuel pump. It won't work on bottom feed carburetors. Fuel pressure holds the float pin up against the seat. It's all about the direction of flow through the float valve.

I've made several futile attempts.

Oh well, that's okay. It looks like I'll be able to keep it factory after all. I looked on Craigslist yesterday and boy there are still quite a few of these out there. They're still as common as the old TD Johnsons. LOL
