picked up a seaking, 5 hp model 54GG-9011. from what i can see it is a 1947. dirty gas tank, needs cleaning and sealing. i have spark and it runs! actually runs pretty good considering the age and it hadn't been run for some years. it is complete, with the cool retro finned covers. its so ugly that its kinda cool. i saved this from the dump. po listed it for free, as he was moving and couldnt take it with him. free is good, but i gave the guy a 20, just because, good karma? it didnt have plugs, and the wires are shot.
pulled the fw, coils look new, points were ok, and the condensers seem to work (she runs).
so lets get to the point,
when i took off the flywheel, the stupid little springs that hold the fingers open on the starter broke. so where can i find them? or what alternatives (modifying some other spring) do i have?
i have no pumping water, i have a spare impeller from a td20 johnson 5hp (if i can find it) are they the same?
carb kit? i think i need to change the carb gaskets, and the primer gasket. any resources? for parts?
looking for a service and parts manual too.
the coils are good, but the wires are toast. do i just pull the wires off the coils? it looks like the wires are soldered to the coil?
sorry for the long post. but it would be nice to get this thing on the water. i have some omc knowledge, but this baby is a little older and different.
thanks a bunch
