Would anyone know the gap for the coils on a 1948 Johnson td 20, 5 hp. also .what the dimension of the cork float is for the carb.? will any kind of plug wires work? I just got some with a cooper wire inside that is used on motor cycles, I would like to thank you for any info you can share with me on this.

The gap on these engines, ( like pretty much any other point type ignition engine) is 0.02 inch or 0.5mm. Make sure you clean them out very well. I have played withe the same engine and took the points apart and polished them with a grid 400 wet sandpaper. I also replaced the spark wire on my td20. Used a spark wire from a moped. you can use your motorcycle wires, the only con is that the thickness of these wires make them inflexible. This could be an issue when advancing your timing plate/throttle lever.

Round plastic float from a MERCURY outboard carburetor can be made to work on these.--------Look for a float from a " side bowl " carburetor.

I believe the question was the COIL gap, not points' gap. Coil gap is .012" But it isn't quite that simple. If the three legs do not all have the same gap, there is a certain allowable difference (as which one can be more or less)
