Thanks 64. Cool little gizmos. I'll have to look into them.

ssloaraine, you can probably get away with a 10-15 lb. mushroom anchor, if you're generally in calm water. I'm at the coast a lot, so I use a bigger, Danforth style anchor like the one in the pic. It helps to "bite" into the soft bottoms a bit which is handy when the wind and waves pick up. It's a little bulky, but not that heavy really. If you do go with a danforth-style anchor, you'll need about 12' of chain and about 40' of rode. The chain helps to get the anchor to lay flat so it can then bite.

kfa - That is a ton of anchor for a little tinny.

I have one of the Danforth anchors for my 21'er that I have never had to use. I use a smaller 10lb that is similar in design, digs in and works. Also carry the Danforth, a mushroom and someone's homemade mud anchor. I use a 10lb mushroom on my 14' Lone*Star, small inland lakes, muck, sand and marrow.

Re: 1950 lone*star malibu rebuild

so i've moved past wiring and getting the whole motor cleaned out points straightened up and ran it in a bucket. getting the ignition going was a huge pain in the ***. replaced the solenoid and still have a wire coming off the motor thats not connected?

i'll post some pictures in the morning of the mess i've been dealing with but my question now is how can i find connectors for the end of the throttle cables to the motor devices themselves?

i imagine its not just some wire and tape. cant find anything online

Welcome to dry dock

I think the term some were looking for earlier about the motor not needing outside power once started, is a Magneto ignition. Sorting out the end of the throttle cable can be tricky. I am not aware of a direct source for those parts, at the control box w/ the throttle lever either.

You might try the salvage boat yards posted in TashasDaddy's Top Secret files thread, my understanding is that those cable ends are hard to come by & may change year to year, even on the same model motor occasionally. There is also a troubleshooting Magneto ignitions on that list. Is that motor you got from the neighbor an electric shift lower unit? My '69 40hp Johnson has the electric shift too. Those electrical parts in the lower unit are also scarce, you may ask around for them too while you're looking for cable ends.

Look through the Johnson OB threads, there may be helpful info there as well, or start a Where can I get these end connectors thread there.

Since you don't have a shot of where you are w/ moving the seat backwards, I don't know where you are with all that, but you might want to add back a splashwell at the transom. Even if it doesn't come forward very far. The Starcraft owner's group tin guys are often trimming their splashwells down, as they are quite often HUGE. Depending on how you run the boat, from 0-WOT-0 very quickly, will tend to make water wash over the transom. Or where the occasional larger wave might be created (barge, or other large boat, ocean/great lakes). In a tinny, that has a drain plug &/or bilge pump, it's not too bad, might just get you, your shoes & stuff wet:) Unless its a significant wave of water, in which case it might just help to prevent swamping the boat.

Nice L-S;)

The bench seat thread, by WoodOnGlass

Some helpful info is contained in the Starcraft owners forum

And read thru some of the threads posted in the SC resto list

You may find some ideas for changing the arrangement of the seats & adding/changing the splashwell. Both of those have been done a few times in the SC threads.

Best of luck w/ your project
