Can someone explain how the speed control lever works. Inherited this from grandpa. Looks new still. I seen it run when i was a kid. The speed control lever is stuck. Everything else moves with ease.

The lever moves the whole stator plate to advance the timing and open the carb for throttle control. It rotates around a hub around the crankshaft . You are going to need to pull your flywheel to see why it is stuck. Could be corrosion, or the coils may have melted from age and glued everything together .

There is a special tool to remove the flywheel nut, but you can take it off with a punch and hammer if you're careful . You will need a puller to remove the flywheel from the crankshaft once you have the but off.

So i pulled the tank, drained and cleaned it. I pulled out the screen cleaned that also. I noticed the tabs on each side that seem to hold things together. I loosened them a little and p.b. blasted everything again. When i got back from a gas run i tried the speed lever again and it moved. After 10 minutes of working it i put it back together. Ten pulls fired up. Just got back from the lake. This thing pushes me and my 200 pound son in a 10 foot raft awesome. By myself it is incredible. Thankyou again for youre help. FISH ON
