Thanks Zool , Kc ... As much of a pita those two can be I do find a purpose for them from time to time ..
Ok I need a plan .. I tried sanding some of the paint off and 60 grit is struggling . Had some paint and epoxy remover laying around and that seems to be working fairly well getting most of the paint off .. Don't know what they used but it,s on there good ...





How should I start ! Will I need to remove the keel ?
Remove all the screws and replace .
What fillers should I use ?
Epoxy?
CPES ,Not sure what that is but have heard mention of it ..
Just fair prime and paint ? idk ..
Would be nice to have this thing ready for the Dora show this year .. I don't think I will have time ti finish though .

May be wrong, but I'm thinking that looks like epoxy paint. May need a heat gun and scraper to remove it.

Bottom side looks pretty sweet to me. JMHO, for the bottom I would simply sand until smooth, prime the bare areas with zinc chromate and shoot it with single stage automotive paint. Not a big believer in spending a huge amount of time on the side that no one will ever see. JMHO. The wood is where to spend your time and will steal the show! Only have to please yourself. CPES is just thinned epoxy resin, and will give no better protection than paint, maybe less......I agree with ssdale, fair it, prime it, and paint...would be a good area to use any essential you have left from the other boat...

Too late I already stripped one side .. It does leak pretty bad at the transom .. What should be the plan .. Take all the screws out try and create a gap and fill with caulk or epoxy ? Put new fasteners in after ...

If you’ve stripped it to bare wood then I’d roll a couple of coats of warmed Epoxy on her ( sit your two parts of Epoxy in warm water to raise its viscosity) then mix and apply. Sand with 220 the use the primer recommended by the paint you’re using

Woody it's pretty much down to bare wood ... I do like the idea of the epoxy .. But just the painted part on the bottom and maybe the inside bilge area that will be painted .. Having a tough time getting the screws out of the metal pieces on the bottom .. I think some may through bolt ,not sure if I can squeeze under it without jacking it up some ..
What should I use for fairing ? I have a HUGE bag of I think its called Airosil ... What type epoxy should be used ?

Ideal for making adhesives and putties for gluing wood, fiberglass, stone, concrete, etc. However, adding this product will make the cured resin much more difficult to sand.

Maybe something else that's not as difficult to sand.

Phenolic Microballoons

These red/purple color phenolic spheres when mixed with epoxy resins will create a low density paste compound which will sand easily and improve strength/flexibility of the cured resin. Better for large gap filling.

I guess not painting the bottom could be an option idk ...
Should I use the epoxy pb to seal up the transom ? Also on whatever through bolts that I have how should I seal those up 5200 ?

Here is the transom .. I need to reseal this joint it leaks pretty bad .. My thought was to take all the old screws out and try and pry a small gap between the ply and the transom wood ... Fill it with epoxy then put new screws in . I have some ss screws that are just a little larger than the ones that are in there now ..
Any thoughts how I should tackle this ?
Wrap it with cloth ?

well problem i see with epoxy is it will lock the water in , id think you would want to let it breath but then who knows i guess everything nowadays is to encapsulate with epoxy, but if epoxy cracks the water is back in again, as far as wood goes looks to me like you might need to replace it , water rot on it?

No rot that I can find ... I had just washed the dirt off the bottom and the edges are just damp from that ...

IDK,....looks like 1st I would sand down the tail end of the ply where it meets the transom. Then make some more assessments.

Got the metal strips off but broke most of the screws holding it on ... All of them are through bolted into the stringer ribs ..
Gunna be tough to get out .. Any reason I couldn't just cut them off and re-drill new hole a few inches over ?

Are they bolts or screws? If bolts, I would just drill them out and use the same holes. If screws, I would just cut them off and then drill them out to about 1/4" below the surface and then drill new holes a couple inches over
