Hello again, I have a 10hp Johnson QD-13, S/N 9322xx, Just fired it up and got it running yesterday. It has a small lever on the tiller arm that has 'ON' on one side, when lever is flipped over it has 'OFF' on the other side. I have never seen this before. Seems to run in either position. Can someone explain what it is for? Also, it appears to be all original including the coils, wich have no cracks and spark just fine, should the coils be replaced or should it be kept original as long as they are working? Thanks- the lever in question is just to the right of the data plate on the tiller mount in the photo [ ATTACH=CONFIG]154804[/ATTACH]

Not sure but it looks like a "tilt lock". Motor should not tilt up when lever is on.

Hmm, I think your questioning the fuel cut-off valve......if it runs motor, when put in off position, for a few minutes, then motor dies it's working ok. If it runs motor , in the OFF position, continusly then it needs attention.....

Well I don't think it's a tilt lock, but I do see now that it has linkage going to the carb. Fuel shutoff sounds logical, I guess I didn't realize that they had a shutoff. I will try to run it in the 'off' position to see if it will quit. I've only run it in a barrel so far, maybe get it to the lake today. Thanks much for the replies.

It is a form of throttle control. If you have it in the ON position you can slow the motor by raising the tiller. Very convenient when hitting an undrewater obstruction as the motor automatically returns to idle speed when the motor flies up preventing over reving. Also works great when manuvering.

Wow, I would've probably never thought of that one, but you are right...raise the tiller arm up and the throttle linkage moves...who'd of thunk it...Thanks very much!
