Sorry for the lack of activity Guys, but I've had a bit of a distraction to deal with.

Re: 1952 Duracraft Sportsman

Bambie's brother decided to head butt me, even though I look kinda rough, he didn't win. Really though, I hate it happened and that he lost his life over it, but sometimes there is just nothing that can be done. I am making progress with the repairs though, as mentioned above, it's what has been keeping me away.

Re: 1952 Duracraft Sportsman

Little work on the DuraCraft's trailer. It needs a complete repaint and new bunk carpet (which I have) but first I wanted to do a few mods so when I repaint it, all the paint will match. I'll most likely redo the bunk carpet pretty quick this season (first time I put the boat in the water) but won't repaint the trailer until this winter, so I sprayed a little rattle can on my additions to blend them in for now.

First was a removable step to climb in from the side.

Nice work, in my crowded joint that step would definitely be a shin skin remover........ Nice work on it's fabrication.

Next was a trailer extension to the rear. The tube stopped about a foot and a half from the rear of the boat and had a roller mounted on the end. I really did not want to put a strap over the gunwale, so I built an extension, relocated the roller (actually used a different one) and added some metal to extend in both directions at the rear with heavy eyelets on the ends. I used round tubing to extend the original (slid inside) and smaller round tubing as braces for the eyelet extensions to match the original tubing on the rest of the trailer. I left the original mounts for the roller in place just in case I ever decide to go back completely original. Kinda worried about hitting them and gouging the bottom of the boat so I might take a hammer and roll them over when I take to boat off the trailer the first time.

LOL, That is why it is removable. It for sure will only be in there just when at the boat ramp getting ready to unload or load.

Nope, not dead, just been busy with many many many other things. With the Summer comes more out door projects and lots of trips down to the coast where my glasser lives. We've been playing on it all summer, fishing and cruising. We also bought more property down there with camper hookups (4 of them) Full hookups, power, water and sewer. A mini RV camp ground if you will, So I've been getting that ready to rent sites. The main reason "I" wanted the property was how close it is to the property we already had AND this.....

Lot's of changes on the forum since May. Your pics did not post last time. You're gunna have to use Photobucket to get em to post with any kind of regular success. The forum upgrade has really messed things up and it's still wreaking lot of havoc.

Yea I noticed  I did finally get the pictures to show up on the second post (I see them anyway), but neither of the first two new posts showed up as posted on the restoration forum  but the third one did the trick.

Yes!!!!! I have got to do that. I've been waiting to share the final interior pictures along with the splash. I have to schedule a time that the Wifey can be there to video a cruise by. Back down to the coast this weekend, so no splash for the DuraCraft this weekend (this is what keeps happening) I have thought about splashing it down there, but am worried about what the salt will do to the polished aluminum. I wonder if Shark Hide will keep the polished look protected in salt water?

You see the pix because they are cached in your computer or your browser. We still don't.......

If you're not mooring it in salt, it should be fine w/ the SharkHide. From their website:
Boat%20Pix%20030.jpg
THIS BOAT WAS TREATED WITH SHARKHIDE METAL PROTECTANT BACK IN EARLY 2006. AFTER SEVERAL YEARS OF SALT WATER EXPOSURE, YOU CAN PLAINLY SEE THE SPOTS THE OWNER MISSED WHEN HE DID THE APPLICATION.
The pix is in the bottom right corner of their homepage ;)

I may have to draw pictures with X's, O's and Dashes like in the old days of Beta programing and you guys will just have to trust me when I say how nice it looks LOL Geeezzzz seems like a backwards step to me.

Thanks for the research on SharkHide, this will likely be the answer to my splash problem, because the other issue is that the lake here doesn't have a dock close to the ramp, so loading and unloading is a pain by myself. The ramps are also quite busy, so I would feel the need to rush and I really don't want to rush on my maiden launch. We have a private ramp in our subdivision down on the coast and I could take all the time I needed, plus the dock is right next to the ramp, you can literally step from the dock to the boat with it still on the trailer (a little of a long step, but doable, I do it all the time) Like I said, I will be down there this weekend, so I'll see if I can find a local marine supply store that has SharkHide on the shelf.
