I have a 1953 12 hp Sea King model 35GG-9018A serial number 453348. I am in the process of replacing the impeller. Do I have to remove the exhaust housing from the powerhead to do this? I have a Johnson/Evinrude manual that is suppose to be similar but it doesn't look the same. The Sea King does not have any access plates for the shift linkage. Any help in how to remove the lower unit would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Thanks for the info. I started to take it all apart last night but wanted to make sure there were no powerhead seals on the shaft. I've got it all apart and am putting the impeller in now. [There is a 1 and 3/4 inch by 7/16 cutout in the top of the water pump. Where does this get located when putting the water pump on?? It looks like it should be located next to the water line.[/[/I]B] Nothing in my Johnson/Evinrude documentation that describes it:Thanks again!!

Dang if I know. It's been 40 years since I've looked at one. However, isn't it impossible to do it wrong? I mean the screws will only line up one way, right? And won't the water flow to the tube, even if mis-aligned?

After looking at it last night I realized the holes will only line up with the cutout on the waterline side. I've got it all back together and just have to water test it. Thanks for the feedback.
