There was a good site called Vintage Alumacraft.com. It had a lot of information on most all older Alumacrafts, also with the yearly brochures. The site is down the last few months. I hope it comes back.

The Flying D is a classic boat. I remember the boat and it should be nice to have. For now I can not help much but will inquire and look around.

I had the vintagealumacraft.com website but had to drop it due to issues beyond my control. The entire website is archived in hopes of restoring it when the time is right. I have most all the Alumacraft brochures from the 1940's - 1970's. I would be happy to provide whatever I have to those needing info.

VintageAlumacraft - Welcome to iboats and so glad that you are here! That site was a gold mine of information. Thank you for all the time, expense and work to do it and hope you can get it running again soon. It is very much appreciated. You have to love these boats to do what you did.

I spent a lot of time on the site just learning and was considering registering my 1968 14' FD boat, but I didn't get around to it.

CREWZN - If you go to the Classic Aluminum Boats site and enter the forum, third page in, posted as Alumacraft Flying D, David said that he was doing a restoration and gave his Email address.

I purchased a 1959 Flying D recently. It had sat in a barn for the last 40 years. The vinyl seats are still intact all hardware was still in good order(I buffed the alum. pieces and sent the twin stern lights to the platers.along with a few odds and ends)windshield was cracked but will be used as a template. let me know if I can help. John, here is a picture with specifications for your 1959 FDR. This model was only made in 1959 & 60. The only picture of it I have is from the 1960 catalog. It's not in the 1959 catalog. The brochure says "See dealer for color combinations", which they offered three.

Absolutely beautiful picture Brian !
Thank you :)
I placed an ad at the AOMCI classifieds for a Mark 35A lower unit.
I have a 1961 Merc 500 that I'm parting out, so maybe someone will trade me for a lower unit for the Mercury Mark 35A :)
I found the serial number on the knee brace of the FDR also ...."FDR 257" so hopefully Sue Prax at Alumacraft will be able to tell me if it's a 59 or 60 model.
Thanks again Brian, this picture is a HUGE help to me.
John

Hello Vintage Alumacraft. I have a 16ft. Alumacraft fishing boat with an open bow. It has what I believe is referred to as a "Back Splash Transom". I am wondering how much the boat weighs. I am planning a fishing trip and wonder whether two men could lift it onto a trailer. Thank you for any assistance that you may be able to offer. Greg
