Hey everyone, so today i decided to change the water pump, i removed the power head, disconnected the shift linkage and dropped the lower leg,all went pretty smooth, then i removed the waterpump housing and realized i didnt remove the pin at the top of the crank shaft, i tried using a small punch to tap it out lightly, but for some reason it wont budge, and i dont want to get to rough with it in case i break it off or damage the drive shaft. Im sure someone else has likely run into this, and any advice would be appreciated

Thanks...

I also forgot to mention that the shift rod is bent, dont know if it should be, in diagrams its straight, so should i just bend it straight, or leave it, as it shifted from F N R with no problem. Thanks

Do not remove the pin. Just pull the shaft out of the lower unit to get the pump parts off it. Yes, it will go back in with no problem.
There has been some discussion recently about whether the shift rod is supposed to be straight. My conclusion is that some are and some are not. I have two of them, one straight and one bent.

I agree with F_R, just pull the shaft out of the lower unit. that is how i did it because I had the same problem. Also, my shift rod was slightly bent but it works just fine and thats how it was when i took it apart

Thanks for the responses, I was going to try to straighten it , but mine also shifts fine so ill just leave it.
As for the drive shaft, I will pull it out, I was hesitant before cause iv heard its hard to get back in, but I'll give it a shot, Also, the mating surface for my lower unit has no place for a noodle gasket, and there was no silicon present,so do I just clean the area and put back together, I seem a lower unit kit for my motor that also fits a7.5 hp, and it comes with a noodle seal so it must be for the 7.5 model.
Thanks!

Spag. seal is for the skeg. Junction of lower unit to exhaust housing has no gasket.. none needed.

Ok, that makes sense that the seal is for the gear case, I was planning on buying a gear case seal kit and re seal the lower unit just as a precaution.

Re: 1954 cd11 water pump

I found a water pump kit at vintage outboard, they seem to have everything, and at good prices for complete kits, my question is regarding the gasket that sits on the top of the spring assembly that sits atop the drive shaft and is held in place by that pin I couldn't remove, anyway, mine appears to be a rubber type and the kit has one but its cork, and in the parts manual its just called(gasket) but from the drawing it appears to be cork,so I'm thinking maybe mine was damaged and replaced with a rubber one, so I'm just curiouse if it should be cork, and also curiouse as to what this assembly does exactly.
Thanks

That is the carbon seal assembly. Keeps water out of the powerhead. Very important. Glad you are doing some proactive maintainanace here.

Yeah, I'm going to do a full resto on this motor, And don't want to ruin it by skipping any important steps, it's all original and I don't trust any seal or gasket that's almost 60 years old, so it is supposed to be cork, or rubber?

The part in question is 303355 omc, this is the one that needs to be replaced, right?,but the water pump kit comes with a cork gasket and oring ,and when i emailed them they said that that was what i needed.
