hello all. This is my first post and my first outboard restoration. I recently bought a 1954 fleetwin 7.5 and would like to check the impeller but cannot figure out how to remove the lower unit. I have already removed the bolts to the lower unit but cannot find a way to get the shift link off. I cant find an access door and it doesnt seem to have bolts in the lower unit. any help would be much appreciated.

I beleave you have to pull the power head on your engine to disconnect the shift linkage.

hey thanks for the link lindy! I got the lower unit dropped and replaced the impellor with no problem. However i checked the ignition parts and noticed the coils were cracked, but i still had spark. I decided to replace them anyways and now one of the new coils has no spark. i have switched plug wires and the wires are fine. Is it common for coils to be bad new or could a condenser go bad coincidentally?

oh and before I forget. My pull cord was worn through the rope and down to the cable so I replaced it with 3/16" nylon rope and now the spring seems to be weak as it doesn't recoil all the way sometimes. Is there a way to tighten the recoil or should i just deal with it.
