Hi all,

My best friend has a 1954 Evinrude Fleetwin. He can't run it at idle. It dies. Is this a carburetion problem? What's the solution? Fuel mix is TWC-3 @24:1. Fuel is clean and tank is in good shape.

Thanks,

Bill

Too set carb, motor has high and low speed adjustment. Low is top. Loosen nut and turn clockwise and it seats. Turn counterclockwise 1&2 turns and tighten nut until light pressure. Start motor and try. If motor idles turn clockwise until motor misses and then back off until if runs smooth.

Other things to check, fuel filter below carb if it has one, proper setting on points, plugs and pressure on gas line.

Re: 1954 Evinrude Fleetwin

Hi, ive got a 54 Evinrude Aquasonic 7.5 they are a great engine its all about adjusting the low speed and hi speed knobs that is if everything else is in good shape. My dad and i had some troble at fist until we took it to a local mechanic. He laughed at us and said we haid the low idle turned completely off. We got the motor back and the high speed knob was loose. You basically have to put it in a garbage can or go out on the lake and get the settings right on the two knobs. I am going to look at ours tommorow, like i had said earlier the high speed know was loose when we gat it back i ajusted it a little on the water but know need to get i to turn more to the right so it will lean out more. Talk to your local mechanic and have him get your settings right or youan fiddle around your self. All i know is that those knobs have to be set right for it to run perfect. Also you can get the whole brochure and manual for the 1954 7.5 at www.old-omc.de/tech/eom7514/eom7514.html our just google it. If you have any questions just post here or send something to me. We got our 54 to start on thefirst pull know and it is a great motor good luck

You aren't going to get much attention hijacking a 4 year old thread, FISHMASTER.

I suggest that you start your own thread.
