Agree with the answer. I remember back in the day. A sporting goods store was on the main drag the next block over from my house. Inside was a Holmes Boat Works, Harrisburg Rd., Houston, Tx. plywood skiff of 16' with a wide beam, varnished as was the case back then, sitting on some cushions on the floor of the store....they sold boats and motors besides other sporting goods.
On the transom was a Brown, 22 HP Gayle Buccaneer. Will never forget. 16', wide beam, 1/4 to 3/8" plywood over oak frames, open skiff with 22-35 HP mostly OMC twins were the main boats around the Houston, Galveston bay fishing boats back then. No doubt that it was an OMC spinoff as I'd bet most of the parts in Gayle products were right off the Evinrude, Johnson assembly line. I lusted in my heart for a boat like that but dad was of limited means and if I wanted a boat, any boat, I needed to grow up, get a job and buy it myself. Well all that happened but not with the Gayle.
