I have been kicking around the idea of a make over for a 1955 25hp Johnson RDE-17 It checks out a 90 top and bottom on compression. Now, that's pulling the beast because it has no starter.

The motor is in a wonderful cosmetic state. Should I find a starter and try again or part out the project while I'm ahead? Thanks!

Sounds like a winner racerone, what about the 90 compression? isn't that in the questionable range that motor?

No comment on compression numbers for that motor.-----Very easy and better to remove bypass covers to inspect pistons and rings.----Just too much argument about compression on older motors.

Some eye candy. One I restored a few years ago.
