Ok, what did I do wrong... I have taken a few apart and they have all went back together ok but this one seems like something is wrong.
I took the flywheel off and replaced the points, condensers, and coils then I put the flywheel back on. After that I removed the carb and cleaned it real good, soaked it overnight and re-assembled it tonight. Then I put the recoil unit back on it now it doesn't want to pull. It feels locked up.

I removed the recoil again and it pulls while off of the flywheel just fine....I can rotate the flywheel without the recoil on just fine. But with the two of them together it's impossible.

Also, i noticed that when I rotate the throttle arm to "start" and try to pull the cord, the throttle moves to stop.

What the heck did I do?

99% sure your coils are not aligned properly on the mag plate. The heels of the coil laminates MUST be flush with the machined surfaces directly below them on the plate. If they extent outwards from there, they will catch the flywheel... Your recoil on/off issue may just be luck of the draw as it shouldn't affect how the coils & flywheel interact...

Thanks for the guidance, the last time I put in some coils I know I was extra careful making sure everything lined up correctly, I know I didn't pay as close attention this time. I will double check everything.

Also, now that you mention it, the old coils were severely cracked maybe a piece of it ended falling inside of the plate.

I'll give it a shot tonight.

You guys are the best!!! When I pulled the flywheel I could see just a tad-bit of green paint on the inside....guess what color the coils are? Green.
I re-adjusted the coils and wham!! It runs like a kitten.
I need to look up the formula for the seafoam-gas ratio and give it a good cleaning. I just had it idling in the tank for the past 20 minutes.

I'm wanting to go to a <10hp lake Sat night for a few catfish. It will be ready.

Thanks again for your help.
