I have a 55 evinrude 5 1/2 horse fisherman model and i am having a problem with the throttle. When you start it you must hold the throttle on the start position as it slips. Tried adjusting the screw at end of tiller but still have problem. Does anyone know what the problem could be in the linkage in the tiller?

Also, a couple more common problems. Are the brass gears jumping a tooth? Or are the coils dragging on the flywheel magnets?

That's because there's no such thing. 1956 was the first year for the Evinrude 5-1/2 horse Fisherman. If you post your model number we can nail down the year for you...

Thanks will order a new one, do you know where i can download an owners parts or manuel? This site does not have one for 55 fisherman.

The link BeTheKing provided is an electronic copy of the parts manual, so you don't have to waste your money on a parts manual.

The link to order a Evinrude service manual. (It cost a little, but it is very good with step by step instruction and specifics to your motor....believe me it is your motor's bible and it is worth its weight in gold)

http://www.iboats.com/Evinrude-5-5-...7914885--**********.853047335--view_id.438810 (shows all the owner, parts, and service manuals for the Evinrude Fisherman model from 1956 to 59)

This link is specifically for the 1956 Evinrude 5.5hp Fisherman model service manual

Please make sure of your model and year motor before you order. If you are unsure please post your model number.

You have a nice little motor and if properly maintained will give you years of good service, so please make sure you used proper fuel to oil ratio with your motor.

The proper fuel to oil ratio is 24:1 (Please don't let someone convince you that with the newer and better oils today you can go leaner. It will run fine for a while and then break because it has had internal damage from lack of proper lubrication. (Then it will be worthless......so keep the fuel oil ratio good cheap insurance) Oil is cheap and parts and motors are not!!!!!

Garry on AOMCI was nice enough to post is fuel/oil conversion chart!!:)

Good luck sir!!
