what is the absolute minimum fuel oil ratio for this old motor. sticker on the cover states amount in quarts and gallons. i figured it to be 20:1. seems like alot! with a premium tcw3 can i run a little leaner mixture without causing engine damage? also at idle it seems to run very rough. i changed points cond. and coils, gunked the carb and installed carb kit and set points and coils to spec :D

Howdy, Walleyehunter.

Set both sets of points at .020.

Unless you have removed or moved the magneto core base assembly you shouldn't need to set the coil gaps. If it is necessary, and you don't have the OMC gapping tool, wrap a piece of .010 shimstock around the assembly, loosely mounted, and slip the flywheel over it. Remove the flywheel and tighten up the core base.

Good luck. :)

Walley..... Notice where the outer metal portion of the coil rests on the aluminum base. You will see a very slight bevel there. The vertical portion of that coil metal portion should be in perfect alignment with the top inside edge of that bevel.
