good deal, that was my thoughts, too. I'll probably drill it and tap and thread. throw some thread sealant and see how it goes.

finally received my carb kit, so I'll try and get that done and then begin the puzzle.

Hey Guy, I just picked up a '55 25 Seahorse yesterday and started looking up info on it. Great job on yours! I followed the links to the service manual and downloaded those. She hadn't run in years, but a new plugs and little coaxing, we got her running. But she leaks fuel out of throat of the carb when shut off. I have a couple quick questions.

I wouldn't mine rebuilding the carb and replacing the impeller. Where are you finding parts for her? Also, like yours, I would like to bring her back to her original beauty. Such cool lines. What colors and type of paint did you use? I am able to duplicate the decals, but in vinyl, not the original appliqu?, which is what I'd prefer to do. Any luck finding those? And lastly, any other maintenance suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, man!

you should really start a new thread with your query.....it keeps things on topic, and less confusing. but, depending on your budget, and how far you want to go with a resto, nymarine has all the stuff to bring one back to running and an original appearance.

Gotcha. Thanks for the tip on the thread. I'm new to posting stuff. I'll check out NYMarine. Thanks. Good Luck!

Re: 1955 Johnson 25hp

Ok, I finally fired this thing up today. Forgot to choke it, but it started anyway.
Got it running for a while to get warmed up and check the spew of water. {I ended up using an impeller I bought earlier for a 10 hp. The brass turned out to have too large an opening for the 10, too small for the 25. Removed some material and worked it to fit the 25 shaft.}
Everything looked good.

Got running at high rpm and sprayed a crap-ton {technical term of measurement} of Seafoam into the beast. Let it sit, fired it up and smoked the neighbor hood. The water looked pretty nasty as well.
I'll still need to make adjustment to the needles, but I am satisfied at this point that I got a "locked-up" $40 dollar motor to run.

One final, hopefully, question. While running the motor today the throttle rod tip broke. Does anyone know of a easy, cheap way to fix this (besides vise grips)?

Thanks!

If you can't find a new shaft, a machine shop might be able to make you one, then crimp or tack the gear onto the other end...

When you do your next compression test get a CLEAN spray bottle and mix it 40:1 little more oil than 50:1 spray in each head to live up the rings if they have been sitting that long u will prob get another 20-30 lbs of compression.

I'll check into something with the shaft, thanks. Obvious things seem to escape me some times.

As to the oil, I ran it on 16:1. That's what I've been running all the "old" motors on.
Figure better a bit too much oil than not enough.
