Re: 1955 Johnson 5.5 CD-12 project

I tried it and there was minor air leakage coming from the tank gasket on one side but nothing bad. I tried the 8 screws that hold the top of tank on, and 5 of 8 had had air leaks, and 2 had major air leaks. So i took the top of tank of and cleaned where the screw gaskets go and then put it back on and got less air leakage, but there still was some leaking, for some reason the two last times i tried i could not find any air leakage. So i waited about 15 to 30 minutes and released the cap and all the air came out, like if it hadn't leaked any. Thanks i will still try to see if it holds every now and then just to make sure though.

Re: 1955 Johnson 5.5 CD-12 project

so today my cousin changed the ignition system and had a thick blue spark on both plugs, I will not be covering the ignition system and lower unit because i was not there with him when he did them, today we started the motor for the first time took a couple pulls for it to start, it did not run good and the water pump did not work, so now he is gonna work on the lower unit, probably need to make a powerhead gasket too because it broke when we removed the head. I will post what pictures i did take of the ignition system when i was there, on the weekend. There was one bad original coil, the other had been changed

so today the lower unit seals were changed and we started the motor again, this time we adjusted the high, slow speed needles and the motor ran great.

Here is the last 2 pics i took and are of the flywheel pulled it with a puller, and notice the cracked coil that's why i only had spark in one cylinder. There had been one changed in the past but both were changed with new ones. The impellar was also in very good condition but it was also changed.
