I have a 1955 Lightwin model 3014 that I brought back to life this season. Love it! :D

I remember a couple of months ago running across a post about which spark plug to use in it, A J4C or J6C? I seem to recall one was better for trolling, and one better for running higher RPM's. I can't for the life of me find that thread.

Which one is the higher heat range, and why run that one for either situation. My lake being so weedy, I prefer to drift fish over trolling and getting so frusterated.

Thanks,
Marv

The J4C is the generally recommended plug. The J6C has been recommended for motors that see a lot of trolling time, as it fouls less easily (hotter plug). Personally, I interchange the J4C and J6C on many of my 1950s Johnrudes with no issues either way. Just depends on what I have onhand when I'm working on a given motor... With a properly set-up motor running good ignition components and a rebuilt carb, I don't recall the last time I fouled plugs in any engine I run on a regular basis.

+1. Champion J4C, or J6C which burns a little hotter and is handy if you do lots of low speed trolling.

Thanks Guys,

I'm about to help a friend wake up his 1965 Lightwin after several years of not running. I wanted to make sure we got the correct ones.
