1956 10hp johnson 10 year sit

This motor has sat a while should it have a major tune up. or should i just check plugs wire, gear oil that kind of stuff. And i was wondering if anyone knew what the oil/gas mix is on this thing. model # is qd 17 r . thanks for help

Welcome to Iboats, super great engine, will out live all of us, Boat Bouy gave you a super link, here's more, it has the awakening a sleeping outboard, out board won't start, carb controls adjustments. and the the decarb and why. i just sold a 1955 15hp that ran better than the new ones. read these then ask all the question you desire. also plan on atleast changing the impeller, as they are rubber and dry rot, can pulverize, clogging the coolling system.

also, very important, the leg of the unit, needs to be submerged in water, ( i use a large garbage can) 1/2 way up the leg. the water pump is high in these engines, and are not self priming, they have to be under water to pick up and pump. keep the water hose running while running. good luck.
