On disassembly I find the lower cylinder with a worn wrist pin bushing and the piston pin support area is also sloppy also some hairline cracks in the skirt of the piston. So new pistons and rings. The rod and main roller bearings Look ok and they measure 0.158 . the rod and crank surfaces look clean an unscored. the rod and crank mains are really expensive! Should I replace them? Do after market pin only kits exist? with better pricing? The cylinder walls look good, no ridges or scores. Should I consider used pistons? Your experience and thoughts would be greatly appreciated before I do something dumb. thanks...

I'd replace the pistons and rings and let the bearings be, try Engine Blade & Prop in Milwaukee, WI, in the phone book and on the web. If there is a pin only kit, they will know.

OMC did not sell the bushing for the pin end of the rod as a separate part.

That bushing wear is very common on motors that have been run on 50:1 mix. Best bet is to have someone machine a bushing out of phospher bronze stock to original tolerances, or find a good, used rod. Fitting a needle bearing might work, but I am not certain the hardness of the wrist pin would be sufficient... Might be able to upgrade to the 18hp rod if there's enough room in there...

.Thank you all for the sound advice.I will machine the wrist pin bushings. what clearance would you reccommend? Also I will hunt for 2.37 " used pistons. what would be acceptable piston bore clearance? thanks Dom
