1956 30hp Evinrude/Johnson Lower Units

Just curious what other model year lower units I can use/swap parts with for a '56 30hp Evinrude/Johnson Electric Start.

This is what I know I can swap with so far (thanks chinewalker)
'56 30hp Evinrude
'56 30hp Johnson
'56 Evinrude Lark
'56 Johnson Javelin

Will parts from '57's and '58's work? I know the motors look fairly similar.

Actually you can also use the 28hp and 33hp lower units that were built in the 60's Any motor that was built without a thermostat, which these two models were.

It is easier to tell what you cannot use. You cannot use any of the 35 & 40 hp motors that have a thermostat (two water tubes). Otherwise, any 25 through 40hp Johnson, Evinrude, or Gale from 1955 up through 1970 something. This assumes replacing the entire lower unit. Does not apply to swapping internal parts.
