I'm looking for a used outboard i went too look at the motor above it starts real easy but its stuck in forward and the shifter handle just slops around any idea on how hard to fix this? The motor starts the 1st pull i offered them $75.00 but they scoffed at me but I dont know the cost or work involved in repairing the motor?

There's a small cast connector piece under the powerhead, at the end of the shift handle shaft (#33 in the diagram below). They have been known to break. It could also be as simple as he shift rod having come undone from the connector piece. Gotta pull the powerhead off in either case...

If that is all that is wrong with it, then $75.00 is a fair price. Does it come with the dual line tank? If so, then that is a very good price...

Hi ckendziora. Welcome to iboats. Sounds like a pretty good deal, especially with the two tanks. No worries on the rotten gas. you can empty it out and clean the tank. here's a great vid that can walk you through the entire powerhead removal and installation involved in dropping the lower unit for routine maintenance or replacing a part, as in your case. Take a look at it and let us know if you have any questions.

ok guys i scored the motor repaired for $225 dont know if that was a good deal or not but she starts and runs good the guy replaced the lower unit lube, fuel lines and plugs in the process. Now what would the proepr fuel mix be and would synthetics be better or? I need to change the fuel lines from the tank are they still avalable? She gave me the orginal bill of sale and owners manual...

Not a bad price at all for a good running motor. You can still get the fuel line you need. It's nothing fancy. Just remove the old line and take it to the auto parts store with you and they can usually cut some new hose to length. The proper mix for your motor is 16:1, later models in the 60s and 70s were 24:1 and newer motors are around 50:1.

They should. The line isn't special aside from getting normal fuel line of the proper size. Although, you may want to consider converting the motor to a modern, single line set up with a fuel pump. It's a pretty quick, easy and relatively cheap ($70 or less) job you can do yourself. A lot of folks here do it so they can simplify there system and don't have to worry about using the pressure tank. If you're interested, there are tons of threads that can walk you through it and I can give you lots of pics/vids to guys doing the job on youtube.

P.S.
NAPA also sells Sierra brand OMC replacement parts (points, condensers, carb kits, impellers, etc....). If they don't have a particular part in stock they can have it delivered from their warehouse by the next day for FREE! It's like getting free overnight shipping.
