I have a chance to pickup a 1956 AD-10 (7.5hp) w/working fuel tank for $50, the motor itself will most likely need the basic's, it sounds and feels like the compression is good and I know for $50 a working fuel tank is pretty much worth that. My question is this, I have a 55 CD-12 that has a leaking foot and had no oil in it when I bought it for parts, will the foot from the AD and CD interchange?

Re: 1956 ad-10

I cannot think of anything internally that would be different other than the drive shaft. The actual assemblies are different though, different part number. But plenty of spare parts inside.

The prop shaft, all gears, bushings, shift rod, water pump and all components of water pump, etc etc etc are identical.

I only have one CD, and have never worked on it. I cant think why the CD would not directly bolt up off hand if you swapped the drive shaft. Someone will pop in and let you know.

...went down to the basement and cannot see a difference between the gearcases on the CD and AD. Mine is a CD 14 though. (I also have the AD 10)

The pinion gears are the same, so MAY be able to swap them if you swap drive shafts, but wait for verification.

BTW, that is a great deal, GRAB IT QUICK!

Frank can that be done? Swap driveshafts and bolt up an AD gearcase to a CD or visa versa?

What is different, the powerhead end(splines) of the driveshaft?

Re: 1956 ad-10

I would assume year for year, it is ok. Part number 376787 shaft fits CD-13 thru CD-22 and also AD-10 through AD12

CD models before and later than 13/22 take different shafts. The exhaust housing was changed in 1956, so I assume (??) the earlier shafts were different length. After CD-22 the shock absorber was eliminated, meaning a different shaft.

Yea, you're okay using a CD drive shaft from 1956 to 58 on that. I believe several years after are good too, but those years are pretty much the same. 1954 - 55 have a different mid section, so the only thing you can do is lay the drive shafts side by side and match them up.

Yes, the driveshafts are just a little different length. You'll be checking waterpump impeller anyway, so just swap the shafts when you're at it...

That's right. Now that you mention it, the 54 - 55 did have a slightly shorter driveshaft. It's been a while since I compared them. I wonder if the shift rod is a shorter length too.

Re: 1956 ad-10

Just got done today re-doing the foot on the CD-12. Everything looked good inside so I don't have to worry about interchangeablity right now. So once I get it all back together I will go pick up the AD-10. Thanx for the replies as to what will interchange between the two models.
