1956 cd-12a johnson

I know by reading all these forums that value on this old of a motor is hard to figure out.
I took this motor in for a customer that asked me if I was interested in it and how much I thought it would be worth. Well it needs the lower unit resealed not leaking bad but leaking. I decided that a carb kit and impeller is in order, since it hasnt run in at least 10 to 15 years. So I figured if this was my motor it would cost me about $110.00 for parts. I came to the conclusion that nowing parts cost not including labor I figured this motor is worth about $50.00 as it sits. It is a very clean motor with great spark and compression. It has the tank included. I like being fair and honest and cant find much info on what its worth. So what do ya think?

If you can get it for $50.00 complete with a tank, I would say.....GO FOR IT!

The tank alone would be worth that and getting the motor fixed up and running right will be an added bonus.

Bought my 55 CD-12 for $50, I'd say your on par.

update on the 56. I got it for $25.00 and guess what it ran great and no lower unit leaks! I put a new impeller in it and a new carb kit just because and sold it for $300.00 couldnt beleive it. I will continue to get these old motors at least for parts!

it does! usually i get slammed on em lol. But ill keep doing it. The new motors have no class like these old ones.

Sort of like cars - new ones have no character and all look the same, like clones. In the 50's and 60's there was no question whether you were looking at a Chevy, a Ford, a Buick, etc. They each had a distinct look and personality.
