1956 Evinrude ,15 hp model 15016 tiller handle

Just bought it, it has two lines from tank to engine. One line goes to carb ( fuel line) and the other to block ... i believe it air line. the tank is bad condition.

I have manual on order .. but i don't think i find this answer there, i want to to know if this can be convert to single line, a more modern tank... Now i guess that a fuel pump needs to be added, but i am not sure. In case a fuel pump needs to be added, how would i pick one out of more out there?

Any ideas, photos or step by step welcome

You will need to find a bypass port cover with the fuel pump mounting bosses. Everything else is simple. Hint: The 12 and 15 horsepower Gale-built motors have them as standard equipment.

Maybe this picture will help.
Also, there is another way. Drill and tap the existing bypass cover to accept a hose barb nipple. Then use a 18-7353 fuel pump (available here at iboats). Connect it to the nipple you just installed, using a short piece of hose. You will have to engineer a way to tie or secure the pump to something.

When you say the tank is in bad condition, what is "bad". If it just needs a general clean-up of some inner rust, new hose, diaphram and o-rings, it'll be cheaper and easier to repair the tank than to gather up the parts to convert... Tank rebuild kits turn up on eBay all the time and are available through several sites on the web... Good, used tanks turn up on eBay all the time, too...

I don't know the old 15hp engines as well as the 35s so a question - are the mounting bosses molded into the original bypass covers like they are on the larger motors? If so, drill the center one all the way through and partially drill the outer ones and tap to mount the fuel pump.

JUST ORDER the FUEL PUMP, THANKS FOR INFO.

question:
THE AIR LINE THAT COMES OUT OF THE ENGINE- TO TANK , Can this just go into the fuel pump to prime it or do still need to do the by-pass cover , then block off the factory line at the engine block ? ( using 18-7353 fuel pump ava @ iboats)

you need to do the bypass cover, and block the air hose. i used a bolt, with a hose clamp.

Don't forget the new gasket for use when remounting or replacing the bypass cover!

The present air hose is pressure pulses only. You need alternating pressure/vacuum pulses such as are present at the bypass cover. Yes, I know, there is a way to convert to the present hose (with a lot of work), but that is so dumb when you already have such an easy source.

Better hold up on ordering that 18-7353 pump. I'm not sure that thing is what I think it is.

That one will work, so will 18-7351. I like 18-7351 better, I just think its a better pump and the hose position is handy for a lot of uses. However, both of these require the bypass cover with the mounting bosses. Or make an adapter plate.
