First I just want to say great forum and very knowledgeable members. I’m learning a lot.
I’m having the ‘motor kicking at high speed’ problem. On the water if I hold the shifter forward it helps reduce the kicking, before I investigate the lower end I need to start at the top. The shifter, I’ve discovered, has been replaced with an even older one (its green). I removed the shifter handle and found out the backing piece the handle screws to is broken. I can’t find it in any of the parts manuals and was wondering if it’s replaceable.
For some reason the forum wont upload any of my pics.( edit: will post a couple more times so i can upload pics.)
Thanks.

Yes you can replace it. No you wont find it listed on any parts sites though! I likely have a few spares, will look. If not, post a wanted ad at aomci.org in the classifieds.

The bad news is you have to pull the powerhead to change it out. Not a huge deal, but something to note. You can change the o ring, and re grease it while you have it apart so that it does not leak.

By the way it is part number 376307 Adjusting lever and shaft assembly.

While you have it apart, change o ring part number 303191

I would have an extra base gasket on hand as well in case yours gets damaged pulling off the powerhead. Part number 303892

and Ebay (yes, win some, lose some). If a seller is parting out a 10, might have the lever and shaft even if hasn't posted it yet. 15/18 might fit too -- might check parts diagrams/part numbers. Should be able to come up with a parts manual (distinct from a service manual). Or find blow ups online.....

well known Canadian parts cabal on AOMCI.... got all the good stuff. all very hush hush -- password protected. and $50 for really good stuff (recommended). can get a pressure tank or parts too, if preferred. if preferred. preferred.

+1 on Ebay shipping costs, international costs. have to shop carefully.
