I picked up a 1956 Johnson 15hp that has some kind of eye hook achment, it appears to be made as a after market part or by OMC for for this particular lower unit. Anybody know anything about it and what it was used for.
Re: 1956 Johnson 15hp lower unit eye hook attachment.
It's a bracket for pulling skier's, and it was a OMC assesory. I alway's felt the exhaust housing, and mounting bracket was a little on the weak side to be used like that.

Interesting. Never seen that before either. I learn something new every day. I always thought that skiers had their line hooks on the transome of the boat.
Nice, ya I'm still at FSU. I fish the flats mostly by the lighthouse. But now that the waters got too cold I moved up into St Marks, but not havin the same luck lately. You?
Re: 1956 Johnson 15hp lower unit eye hook attachment.
I've been mostly just working on my boats and motors over the winter, but I've gone out to lake talquin too, but I'm not very good at freshwater fishing, but at least it's close and easy to get to. spring should be here soo...I hope.
Actually, I learned to ski behind a 14' fishing boat with a 16hp Oliver motor. I was 13 years old, and probably weighed less than 100 lbs in those days. Pulled me up with no problem.

It is a ski tow. Can also be used to tow tubes, broken boats, or anything else. It does not damage the motor. In fact it puts less strain on the motor mounts than connecting the tow rope to the boat.
