Hi there all, Really enjoying the wealth of information available through these forums. Having some trouble trying to adapt a generator onto my good old '56. I have the mounting bracket and a generator, but the flywheel on my donor motor is the wrong crank size. (slightly newer Evinrude 35hp) Can i wrap a belt around the flywheel above the starter ring, or do i need to go in search of a different flywheel? looking to go on some multiple day runs and charging a battery isn't really a viable option where i'll be.

It takes a special cogged belt. I don't think you will keep anything else on there. Hey, it runs over 4000 RPM. I think you would be better off looking for an early 35hp flywheel. Tapers came in two sizes, early through 1961 (small) and 1962-up (large) Also, be careful of the keyway depth. Look before you leap.

Have you decided what you are going to use for a voltage regulator?

I have to ask... Why?? Complicated, heavy system with marginal benefit. If you just need the battery topped off, get a solar charger, clip it on when you're not using it and be done.
