I just replace the impeller and lower unit seals in my 1956 johnson 7.5 HP outboard motor. I started it today and it ran fine, but i noticed some water leaking out from around the shifter lever (F, N, R). Any ideas what i did wrong? If somebody could give me a link to the diagrams of the motor would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had the same problem with my 56 Johnson 7.5. I took off the power head and followed the water channel through engine and found water comming out of the bottom of the headin an open port. I find two ports, one on bottom and one just to the side, on the head. I measured the hole and wend to the local auto supply and got a frost plug about 0.015" over ( thats the closest they had)and pounded in. Put the power head back on and its working just fine.
