bought a guage at cdn tire. :( top cyl reads 89 psi, bottom cyl reads 40 psi. not so good.

Still could be stuck rings or a head gasket, did you put some oil in and try again to see how much rise you get?

did you disassemble the motor before painting it, or just clean it up really well? i keep looking at the final result and it makes me want to do the same to my cd 13.......even if it cant be brought back to running condition. those motors from the 50's are so nice to look at !

Keep it! Find out an antique outboard swap in your area. You will probably find some old CD12 to CD18 or Evinrue 5512 to 5522 to use as parts. (OMC changed the exhaust leg around cd15?) but the rest is almost the same. Most of the parts from a Viking 5hp deluxe and SeaKings (F/N/R) will fit you motor. Start poking around and have fun and you'll learn alot. The strange thing about old outboards is once you get one, soon a few more will appear....hehe.

thanks jim, that info on other motors that have interchangable parts may be a great help! definitely gives me more options for finding a good powerhead. i really dont want to see the ol girl go for scrap.
